Ideal setup, with camera securely mounted using clamps, strap, and 2nd strap as a safety line.
The ideal means of mounting a camera is by using both clamps and straps, as shown here. Note that one of the straps is routed through the camera's built-in strap, meaning it will “catch" the camera if knocked loose from the clamps. Whenever possible, route the primary strap used for holding the camera down through something like this. The second strap is being used as a safety line. While a safety line may seem redundant, there are indeed two straps available, and its placement does not interfere with anything, so there's no reason not to use it. Keep in mind that you are mounting a camera which lacks a tripod socket, so without the ability to have a threaded stud holding it, it's crucial to make the connection as solid and secure as possible by other means.
The BoxTopper’s clamps and straps were designed to accommodate a wide variety of cameras. They can be repositioned as needed to establish that solid connection between board and camera.
The 4 clamps mainly position the camera in place on the board. When properly tightened, they do grip it very well, but that friction-only grip is not a truly positive connection. It is critical that at least one hook and loop strap is used to provide such a connection between board and camera, unless it is physically impossible to do so.
